What to expect:

We will have three days of studio time together to explore, experiment, and enjoy a multitude of mark making techniques.

 

You will have access to my fully equipped professional encaustic studio space and I will show you my many unique approaches to working with encaustic.

Once we've covered the basics, we will move on to exploring my signature shellac burn technique as well as other mixed media methods that will allow you to enhance your artworks.

 

I'll teach you how to use your materials like a master and gain more control over this challenging medium.

 

We'll cover making your own medium, mixing colors and sourcing materials. 

All of your materials are provided.

Alicia Tormey

Alicia Tormey is an internationally recognized encaustic artist based out of Seattle. She is best known for her organic imagery and inventive painting techniques. Alicia's work has been featured on the cover of Professional Artist Magazine and in numerous other publications including Encaustic Arts Magazine, Studio Visit, and the Boston Globe. She has been working with this medium for over 20 years and is passionate about teaching and sharing her painting methods with students from all over the world. 

In this 3-Day Encaustic Intensive Workshop we'll cover:

 

🔥 How to create the perfect shellac burn. 🔥

 

How to prepare a smooth encaustic surface.
 

We'll also explore some unusual methods of mark making, image transfer, and textural techniques.

All workshop materials will be provided for you. This includes your panels, materials, encaustic paints, and access to tools and equipment.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided during workshop hours.

Students are responsible for:

Airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and all meals and activities outside of the workshop venue. 

(We'll send you our list of recommendations for lodging and restaurants once you register.)

Class Hours: 10am - 4pm
Class Size: up to 16 students
Prerequisites: All skill levels welcome!

Course Tuition:   $1,450

Materials Fee:     $240
