Frequently asked questions about the Burren Encaustic Retreat:

How do I get to the retreat location?

It's recommended that students fly into the Dublin International Airport. From the airport you can take a bus directly to Galway Coach station which is adjacent to the train station OR you can take a taxi or bus from the airport to the Heuston Train Station and catch a train to Galway. There will be one pickup time at the Galway Train Station in the later afternoon to accommodate all students (Time TBD). If you are early, there is a luggage place where you can stow your bags and explore until pickup time. We will also return you to the Galway train station when your retreat has concluded.

Can I pay for my tuition in installments?

Your initial  nonrefundable workshop deposit of $600 is due at registration. The remaining balance can be paid in two installments of $2500 each by the specified due dates. The first payment of $2500 is due by February 15, 2023 and the remaining balance of $2500 is due by May 15, 2023.

 

How much of my tuition is refundable if I have to cancel?

Your deposit of $600 is due at registration and is nonrefundable. Any other payments made towards your tuition will be refunded less a $49 admin fee if cancellation is requested before May 15, 2023. Cancelations made after May 15, 2023 are non-refundable.

 

How do I get my artwork home?

We will be working on small panels in your workshops so you can easily pack them in your suitcase. Save room in your bag or bring an extra suitcase for your art panels. Arrangements for shipping your work home can also be arranged for an additional fee.

 

What size panels will we be working on in the workshops?

We will work on panels around 10” x 10” and smaller so you can easily transport your work home.

 

Do I have to be present for the entire duration of the retreat?

You do not need to remain for the duration of the retreat. Please notify us if you will be arriving late or leaving early.

 

What if I have special dietary needs?

Every effort will be made to meet your dietary needs. There is also shopping in the nearby town where you can purchase additional food supplies if needed. There's also a fully equipped kitchen available for students to use during their stay.

 

Are there any private rooms available?

All the rooms are twin doubles with an ensuite bath. There are no private rooms available at the retreat location.

 

Are there laundry facilities available at the retreat?

Yes… there is a washer and dryer available for students to use during their stay.

 

Can I bring a companion if they're not participating?

We can not accommodate partners or companions on campus but nearby food & lodging is available.

 

Do I need to have prior experience with encaustic to attend this retreat?

No prior experience is required and all skill levels will be welcome.

 

What are the workshop hours?

The workshop hours are from 10am to 5pm with a 1hr lunch break mid day. There will be scheduled open studio time available for students who wish to work independently outside of class hours.

 

How many participants are in the retreat?

There are 22 total participants in the Burren retreat with 11 students per individual workshop.

 

Can I spend the entire retreat with one instructor?

If you can partner with another student who wishes to remain with one instructor you may swap places and remain in… or transfer to your desired class.

 

Is airfare covered in my tuition fee?

Airfare and expenses outside of the workshop are not included in your tuition fee.  Please see the Registration Page for expenses that are included in your tuition.

 

Do I need to bring any materials or supplies?

All of your materials are provided for the workshops. You are welcome to bring additional materials that you wish to work with in class.

 

Will there be any one-on-one time with the instructors?

Students will have 3 full studio days with each instructor allowing for individual instruction time.
