Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Do I need to have prior experience with encaustic to attend this retreat?

While some experience with encaustic is helpful it is not a requirement. Students of all skill levels are welcome.

How do I get to the retreat location?

It's recommended that students fly into either Boise International Airport or Sun Valley's Friedman Memorial airport.

Alaska, Delta, United and their partner airlines fly into Sun Valley directly. Flights into Boise are less expensive and more frequent.

If flying into Boise, you will need to rent a car or take the shuttle bus. The drive from Boise to Sun Valley is about 2hrs and the shuttle is about 2.5hrs . If you are booking the Sun Valley Express Shuttle from Boise you will be arriving and departing from the HAILEY stop. I will pick you up from the shuttle drop off location in Hailey or the Sun Valley airport if you fly direct.

Flights into Sun Valley's Friedman Memorial Airport are convenient but very limited as it's a very small regional airport. There is also the Salt Lake Airport in Utah that is about a 4 1/2 hour drive from the Sun Valley area and they also have flights into Sun Valley. We will send you the exact location of the retreat once your tuition has been paid in full.

Can I pay for my tuition in installments?

Yes. Your initial workshop deposit of $1200 is due at registration and is applied to your total tuition costs. Your remaining tuition balance is billed in two equal installments. Payment amounts and payment due dates are based on your selected accommodations and retreat start dates. Please refer to the Registration Form for payment due dates. If you wish to break up your payments further, please contact us via email at art@aliciatormey.com to make payment plan arrangements. Additional processing fees apply to extended payment plans.

How much of my tuition is refundable if I have to cancel?

Any payments made towards your tuition will be refunded in full, less the $600 non-refundable portion of your initial deposit if cancellation is requested 60 days or more from the start date of your retreat. Late cancellations made less than 60 days prior to your start date are non-refundable. Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover your costs if you need to cancel.

How do I get my artwork home?

Bring an extra suitcase for your art panels. The cost to check an extra bag is generally less than shipping costs. Arrangements for shipping your work home for domestic shipping within the continental US can also be made for an additional fee. Students are responsible for all shipping costs.

What size panels will I be working on in the workshops?

You will work on a variety of panels ranging in size from 8" x 8" up o 12” x 12” so you can easily complete your class projects and transport your work home.

Do I have to be present for the entire duration of the retreat?

It's recommended that you plan to be present for the entirety of the retreat. Please notify us if you will be arriving late or leaving early. Remember to allow for extra travel time to and from the airport when making travel arrangements.

What if I have special dietary needs?

Every effort will be made to meet your dietary needs. There is also shopping in the nearby town where you can purchase additional food supplies if needed. There's also a fully equipped kitchen available for students to use during their stay.

Are there any private rooms available?

Yes. There are a select number of private rooms available and accommodations are based on your selected preference, as well as room availability, at the time of your registration. You will be assigned the next available option if your preference is no longer available at time of registration.

Are there laundry facilities available at the retreat?

Yes… there is a washer and dryer available for students to use during their stay.

Can I bring a companion if they're not participating?

We can not accommodate partners or companions during your retreat but nearby food & lodging is available. We can make some recommendations if needed.

What are the workshop hours?

The workshop hours are from 9:30am to 4:30pm and there are group meals and evening activities scheduled after workshop hours.

How many participants are in the retreat?

There is a total of 6 available slots per retreat making for an intimate and in-depth learning experience for participants.

Is airfare covered in my tuition fee?

Airfare and expenses outside of the workshop are not included in your tuition fee.  Please see retreat Registration Pages for expenses that are included in your tuition.

Do I need to bring any materials or supplies?

All of your materials will be provided for each workshop. You are welcome to bring additional materials that you wish to work with in class.

Can I get my own accommodations?

You are welcome to secure off-site accommodations. I am happy to recommend nearby lodging options. Please contact me prior to booking if you choose this option.
