Special Effects with Shellac
In this immersive retreat...
we start with a deep dive into all the encaustic basics and cover a wide range of techniques that pair well with shellac burn effects. You will discover layering techniques, image transfer methods and alternative approaches to mark making as we prep our painting surfaces for shellac burns. You will learn to master the art of the Shellac Burn, a technique that I developed almost 30 years ago, and discover how to incorporate this magical effect into your encaustic artwork.
Your days will be spent creating in my private studio where I share my secrets and techniques for incorporating shellac with encaustic to create compelling, organic web-like patterns. You will lean how to safely burn with control and intention, create custom shellac colors and discover alternative ways to incorporate shellac into your encaustic art.
This creative workshop will take place in my home and private studio space that is nestled in the foothills of the Northern Rockies. World renowned Sun Valley resort is less than 30 minutes away and offers shopping, dining and resort amenities.
Come see my private Idaho and be surrounded by a majestic mountain landscape as we create in the studio. In the evenings... we'll break bread over gourmet meals and share inspirations as we forge new friendships and explore creative ideas.

Welcome Reception & Group Dinner
Students check in at the Lodge after 4pm. Early arrivals gather at Alicia's studio for snacks and beverages. After students get settled we gather for a little bubbly followed by a group dinner.

Tuition for this retreat ranges from
$4550 to $4986
(depending on your room preferences)
Tuition includes:
Meals, lodging, workshops, art materials and limited ground transportation.
After your registration is confirmed,
your remaining tuition balance is due in 2 equal payments as follows:
1st tuition payment is due 60 days after your registration is confirmed.
2nd tuition payment of remaining balance is due 90 days after registration.
Registrations made within 60 days of retreat start date require payment in full.
A nonrefundable deposit of $1200 is required at registration and will be applied to your tuition.

Cancellation Policy & Terms Of Agreement
Thank you for your interest in attending this Encaustic Retreat hosted by Alicia Tormey Studio, LLC.
Please read the Registration & Cancellation Policy carefully.
Nonrefundable Deposit:
Your initial $1200 deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Your deposit is due at time of registration to secure your spot if a space is available.
Tuition Balance
Your tuition is paid in installments beginning with your initial nonrefundable deposit of $1200 followed by two equal payments of your remaining total balance due. 1st tuition payment is due 60 days after registration. Your 2nd payment is due another 30 days after your 1st tuition payment due date. Full tuition must be paid before your retreat is scheduled to start.
Refunds:
Your initial deposit of $1200 is non-refundable and non-transferable. A 50% refund of remaining tuition paid-to-date will be issued for cancelations made 60 days prior to your retreat start date.
Student Cancellations:
Cancelations must be made within 60 days prior to your retreat start date to be eligible for a partial refund. No refunds will be issued for cancelations made after the 60 day deadline. Cancellations must be submitted via email to art@aliciatormey.com at least 60 days prior to your retreat start date to be eligible for a partial refund.
Late Cancelations: Cancellations made less than 60 days prior to the start date of your retreat are non-refundable and non-transferable.
NO-SHOWS are 100% NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE.
If your workshop is cancelled by your instructor and Alicia Tormey Studios, LLC for any reason, you will receive a 100% refund of all tuition payments you have paid to date, including any non-refundable deposits.
Alicia Tormey Studios, LLC is not liable for any additional expenses incurred, including, but not limited to; airfare, transportation and accommodations, if your retreat is cancelled by Alicia Tormey Studios, LLC for any reason.
Failure to pay your tuition fees by the required due dates may result in automatic forfeiture of your enrollment and refund eligibility. If you require more time to make your tuition payments, please contact art@aliciatormey.com prior to your payment due dates.
Upon submitting payment, you agree to these terms and you hold Alicia Tormey Studios, LLC. free from any liability in the event of loss or accidental injury.
