Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about the live encaustic workshops:

Where are the workshops held?

All Live Workshops take place in Alicia's professional working studio located in downtown Seattle, Washington. Her studio is part of the historic Inscape Arts & Culture Building which is home to over 100 artists and creative enterprises.

Can I pay in installments for my class fee?

Yes! Just contact the us at to make arrangements after you have submitted your registartion form.

I'm a total beginner, can I still take a workshop?

We love to have beginners come into the studio and we welcome all skill levels to our Encaustic Basics & Beyond and our 5-Day Encaustic Immersion workshops. We do caution that the Working Large with Encaustic workshop is for more advanced students who already have a strong understanding and basic technical skills in encaustic. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I'm experienced with encaustic, is this class for me?

Yes! While we do cover some basics remember that this is Alicia's unique approach to encaustic painting, most experienced students gain new ways of working with the basics as well as more advanced techniques.

I'll be traveling to take my workshop. Is there a place nearby to stay?

Yes! The studio is in south downtown Seattle with lots of hotels and great Airbnb options nearby. Once you register, we'll send you information on travel and recommendations for accomodations in the area.

How will I get my artwork home?

For most workshops, with the exception of the Working Large class, we will create paintings small enough to pack in your luggage. At the end of each workshop we will help wrap your pieces for transport. Working on small panels, typically 8" x 8", gives you more time to work on techniques without having to manage all the prep of a large surface. In the Working Large workshop students work on a panel that is 30" x 40" and part of the class is learning how to properly pack and ship your work. Students in the Working Large class will pack their own work, pre pay for shipping, and we will ship it out to your home or studio after the workshop.

Will Alicia be teaching how to create the web patterns from her work?

Yes! A large portion of the workshop is designed around the Shellac Burn technique, the method used to create the distictive patterning that you see throughout Alicia's work.

Will Alicia teach me how to create one of her botanicals?

The primary focus of each workshop is to familiariaze you with Alicia's signature techniques. You will learn "HOW" to paint but not neccesaily "WHAT" to paint. Alicia shares with you many of her specialty techniques that you can use to create your own unique artwork, but she does not specifically go into detail about her floral painting process in her workshops.

How do I get to Alicia's studio?

Once you register we will send you detailed information about your upcoming workshop including directions to Alicia's studio and where to park on site.

How much is the deposit to hold my place in a workshop?
